Universal’s 2014 compilation Icon 2 has a title that’s very similar to their 2012 collection Icon, and it also shares four songs with that disc (“I Think I’ll Just Stay Here and Drink,” “Misery and Gin,” “If We’re Not Back in Love by Monday,” “Rainbow Stew”), but it’s a very different compilation. It’s two discs and 22 tracks long, double the size of the 2012 set, but it also contains selections from Hag’s seminal Capitol recordings, which were owned by EMI, a label Universal purchased since the 2012 release of Icon.

Hence, Icon 2 nicely balances Capitol recordings and MCA hits, making for a nice sampler of some of Haggard’s biggest hits of the ’60s and ’70s.
